Excerpt: As the Environmental Genome Project (EGP) marks its fifth anniversary in 2003, there is some cause for celebration. Although it is premature to expect the project to have any impact on public health and policy yet, the EGP’s science and technology are advancing in step with its original goals of understanding the complex interrelationship between environmental exposure, genetic susceptibility, and human disease.
